Slave Summary Table- Historic Rosedale Plantation
When I visited the Historic Rosedale Plantation in Charlotte, NC, I was blown away by the history and depth of the place. Beth Harris, the education curator, gave a great tour by tailoring it to the article I was going to write about it and easily handled any question I threw her way. Afterward, I was curious about the timeline of slaves who were associated with the plantation, and she sent me the following table. Her instructions on how to understand are, and I quote, 'Families are color-coded as a group. Unknown relationships are in black. Within a color group, there is a superscript number that shows which generation. So you see person 1. Nancy Montgomery1. 2. Is her child Jefferson2 The color changes to red and this is a new family group.'
