Once the curtain rose and the orchestra began playing, it took me more than several minutes to grasp what I was seeing. A centuries-old form of art combined with a very modern filmmaker? In lesser hands, the result would have been a disaster; put Atom Egoyan in charge, and the production is one of sophistication.
