Ready for an upgrade

When I bought my two-wheeler, my first intention was to get a motorcycle. I mean, how badass are they? Never mind their manual transmissions or heavy weights, it was a motorcycle for me.

Well, I actually ending up leaving the store with a scooter. It may not have been my first choice, but it was a gosh darn nice bike at 150cc, shiny black, and a sporty, ferocious look. And with my full face helmet (which incidentally makes me look like a cricket), I was set to go.

But it wasn't long before I start yearning for the power and speed of an actual motorcycle, and finding my scooter just not having enough juice to really roar away on the open road.

And you know how they say be careful what you wish for? I got that wish this morning and tested out a Honda Shadow. Aaaand lemme tell you...was that ever an experience. Getting it into first? No problem. Finding the perfect balance between clutch and throttle? I stalled out every single time. My greatest achievement this morning was making it down to the end of the block, although I think that was just the bike's RPMs in first instead of me actually doing anything.

You know, I thought I had done my homework: I read about motorcycles, I watched videos on YouTube (and got really fascinated with motorcyclists hitting deer), and air-shifted.

It just goes to show you that there's no substitute for the real thing.

But man, I would have looked awesome flying down the road on a red Shadow.
