Week 2: Day 12
Yesterday didn't really start or end particularly well. In the morning, I got caught in absolutely hellish, stop-and-go traffic on Adelaide, turning my normally-10-minute commute into just over half an hour (even with zipping through laneways and parking lots). And then at night, one of my roommates told me he found a squirrel staring at him in the kitchen. I live in the downtown area, not a cottage up north — there should be no squirrels or rodents inside. To make matters worse, I slept really poorly, imagining every single rustle and scratch was the same critter bringing his posse in to roost on my bed.
Luckily, today went better. I was listening to apocalyptic reports about the traffic on the CBC this morning, with the broadcasters saying Richmond, Adelaide and a bunch of other downtown streets were either closed, blocked off or heavily congested. Steeling myself for another half-hour ride (I really should just be taking my bicycle, or walking), I set off and decided to switch things up by going down Beverly.
Well, that turned out to be an awesome choice. No traffic! I was a little worried the lightness of my motorcycle wouldn't trigger the advance green at College, but a car pulled up behind me and we both zipped off.
We started a new section in class today, with the instructor warning us it would be the dooziest of doozies. So when there were two options presented of doing the assignment, I naturally turned toward the tutorial one with all the hand-holding — another good choice. I, of course, needed help from the TAs but I finished it (even after making my server temporarily explode into a multi-line hissy fit of errors), and even managed to cream through the second part of it.
Including getting there an hour early for the Coffee & Code session, I spent 11 hours at school today, leaving a couple minutes before 8. But getting home, I don't feel guilty at all for putting on the rest of The Squid and the Whale and actually reading a book before bed instead of working on coding. I think I've earned it.
