Week Three: Day 4
Man, I can't believe I'm almost half done this course. Okay, I'm exaggerating a little bit: end-of-day Friday will mark the one-third point of this course, and time has just been flying by. We're already a few days into September and I have no idea where the rest of the summer days have gone. Of course, the Ex parading into town for its once-a-year visit was the first harbinger that the dog days were moving into the rearview mirror, but somehow, the start of September and hearing about school commencing really drives it home.
At one time in my life, I was a big morning person. I'd happily get up at 3:30, 4, 5am to head to work or the farmer's market; last year, breaking my leg, I instantaneously shifted from early-to-late morning wake-ups and for the most part, have been able to enjoy the luxury of not setting an alarm clock. While the rest of the world snoozed their alarms and sleepily went about their mornings, I thumbed my nose at them and got up when the sun had already been out for hours.
Well, the tide has turned. Unless I'm willing to sacrifice breakfast and my morning shower and stumble into class a minute before it starts, I, too, have to set my alarm and wake up earlier than I'd like. But sitting on my sidewalk rock this morning to have a smoke, I realized that it didn't matter. I've been so into the course and scarfing down the material, I've been setting the alarm and not snoozing it for an entire hour, all because I want to get to class an hour early to listen to the CBC and work on coding stuff. When you enjoy what you do during the days and it really feeds your soul, you happily trade that extra hour of sleep to indulge it in even more.
And in a cool twist on the "Nerdy Joke of the Day" section of the whiteboard, someone anonymously wrote their own joke (yay!), which was what I was hoping would happen. Here's what they wrote:
Why did the programmer leave his wife? Because she had one-to-many relationships. |
