Off on a new adventure

I discovered this neat site, Flight Diary, where you can track all the flights you've taken. I was quite interested to learn that I've gone on enough plane rides to circumnavigate the globe 1.5 times, and that I've spent a pure half week doing so.

But in just over nine hours, I'll be starting my biggest trip yet: Buffall to JFK to Abu Dhabi to Kathmandu to Lukla to Everest Base Camp (the last one is a hope -- so many things could halt it in its tracks).

I'm at Buffalo Airport right now -- familiar territory because of its cheaper prices and lower landing fees, but a strange scene because of the moderate culture shock. America seems so larger-than-life to me, but I usually have the luxury of closing an Internet tab or switching newspaper articles when I need to be reminded of the comforts of home. There's no off switch here; I'm inundated with all the larger-than-life-ness of America 24/7 until the next stop.

Last time I was at the Lake Erie Grill (also known as the-only-place-to-eat-or-drink-before-clearing-security), it was shortly after the Boston bombing and I was shocked at how the blaring TV screens permeated my unconsciousness. Now, there's just a basketball game on and I don't know if I feel disappointed at the lack of American-ness, or relieved at the lack of right-wing commentary.

Also, when did the downtown Buffalo bus station get a Tim Horton's?!
